SHG Woman Weave Success Story Running Xerox or Photocopy and Printing Shop

This is an exceptional and very encouraging story of a rural woman whose name is Rukia Begum Barbhuiya, a resident of Tupkhana Gaon Panchayat and a member of Faithful SHG under Silchar Development Block. What makes this woman's livelihood here exceptional is the fact that she has chosen a way of making a living that is not usually seen run by women, which is Xerox or photocopy and printing shop.

The idea of this business came to her mind as her village is much far from the city Silchar and to make some xerox or print they had to go to Silchar which is a costly affair. And nowadays school and college students need many kinds of Xerox and prints, which was an opportunity for her business.

Her self-help group came under the ASRLM fold in 2018 and received various types of training. They used to maintain their books of record very well, as a result of which they passed their grading at the first attempt just three months after coming under the ASRLM fold and became eligible to get Rs. 10,000 under Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Yojana. They then applied for a Bank Loan from PNB Arunachal Branch and were able to get a loan of Rs. 50,000 initially. Borrowing from that corpus, she first raised chickens and made a profit, but she felt that her hunger for doing something was not satisfied. At the end of 2019, they availed of Rs 50,000 from Community Investment Fund and in the meantime they already repaid Rs. 50,000 which they previously received from bank. Their repayment was so good that the bank sanctioned another loan of Rs. 1,00,000 and later Rs. 2,00,000 which resulted in a good amount of money in their hands and she decided to start this business.

She rented a small shop in front of her house on the road of Rs. 500 monthly rent. According to her, she invested Rs 50,000 taking several loans from her SHG and invested another Rs 40,000 from her own source. It cost her Rs. 40,000 to buy a Xerox machine and Rs. 15,000 to procure a printer and about Rs. 30,000 to set up a desktop computer and the rest to set up the unit.

Since it is a little difficult to operate machinery by a village woman which requires technical knowledge, for which she put her son in that shop who was sitting idle at home. Today, this woman is able to earn easily Rs. 300 to 400 hundred daily by covering all the expenses, from which she keeps Rs 100 apart to repay the loan and with the rest she is living her life happily. Rukia Begum has reached the pinnacle of success today because of her strong will power. She was able to reach this stage today as she was not satisfied with her initial little income and wanted to do something big. They were also able to get a loan very easily without any hassle because of their good record maintenance and timely repayment schedule.
