Anita Choudhury finds a way to earn and support her family starting a Kirana Store

A SHG member empowers her family and in turn empowers the society. This is the story of Smt. Anita Choudhury of Bhajantipur Gaon Panchayat under BMMU Silchar. In spite of belonging to a small village she has completed her basic education. Anita stays in a family where there are four dependant persons upon her. Taking care of such family has always been a great responsibility. She became so involved in her family responsibilities that she could not even think of getting married. Determined to help her family, Anita was so firm to do something of her own. She stated a small kirana shop, first in a bamboo structured and mud house in early 2017. Her determined and focused approach led her to look for options that could bring stability in her life. It is then she became a member of ‘Swarnajyoti’ Self Help Group under Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission. As a result of running the SHG smoothly and efficiently, they gradually received government assistance. First, they received Rs. 25,000 under the Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaram Yojona followed by a bank loan of Rs. 1,00,000 from Canara Bank Silchar. Bank loan accompanying with the Revolving Fund and their weekly savings, accumulation of all has become a good corpus in their SHG. Anita Choudhury decided to took a loan Rs. 20,000 from her SHG's accumulated corpus and some money from her own savings to make her existing kirana store to big and permanent one.
Today, the woman is able to run her shop in a healthier and standard way. She has shifted from her old bamboo wall and mud house to a newly built permanent structured shop. Needless to say, the woman's shop is the only big shop in this village where the woman earns 700 to 800 rupees per day very easily. Anita said, smiling with moist eyes, “Swarnajyoti SHG has given me hopes to grow further and help my family. I don’t have to worry about the economic conditions of my family anymore”. Anita Choydhury has proved that if there is an indomitable desire to do something then no one can defeat you.
